Field Controls Engineer – 6 month contract to perm – Remote Opportunity

 

We currently have an opportunity for a Field Controls Engineer to support COMPANY equipment installed in North and South Carolina and surrounding areas. This individual will be required to troubleshoot, analyze and correct pneumatic, electrical and controls problems with COMPANY equipment. This individual will assist the Design and Build teams with installation of new and upgraded automation systems at the customer’s plant and will also troubleshoot and implement corrections to electrical hardware and controls code.

 

Specific Daily Duties

In order of priority, the following lists the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and the percentage of time spent on each, and key performance measures.

  • 5 - 10% Warranty – Quick response to emergency customer warranty related issues. Debug, analyze, identify, and resolve issues as identified. The engineer responds to customer requests for Service and/or Warranty at customer sites immediately and always with a sense of urgency to meet their needs as prioritized by the Service Manager.
  • 40% Paid Service – Provide support to our Customers related to new equipment provided by COMPANY or modifications to previously supplied COMPANY equipment. The COMPANY Service Team is responsible for design and build of modifications to existing equipment. This includes modification and or re-write of PLC, HMI, Robot, or Vision programs per specific project needs or customer requests such as programs which may require adding or subtracting part models to a machine, changes to HMI screens, sequence changes, etc.
  • 20% New Equipment Controls Design and machine programming. The Service Team is responsible for standalone automation up to a value of $500K. Larger projects are handled by our design and build teams.
  • 20% On Customer Site Support/Assistance – Support requested through COMPANY home base such as our PM or Engineer. Gather info and/or assist with evaluate/diagnose, by phone or e-mail to COMPANY staff. This is often a non-billable general customer support required for maintaining a good Customer relationship.
  • 5% Quotes - Provide paid service related quotes for program upgrades/changes to our customers in a professional format – using COMPANY existing quote numbering system
  • 5% Installations / Production Start-up Support - Assist COMPANY Engineers with Installation, training, and startup machines at customer’s site.

 

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Debug, assembly, analyze, identify, resolve and track machine problems.
  • Develop good customer relationships. Portray and maintain an upstanding representation of COMPANY with each customer and supplier. Exhibit excellent customer communication skills. Act with professionalism, courtesy, sense of urgency.
  • Evaluate and help diagnose, by phone or e-mail to COMPANY staff, machine problems that you cannot resolve on your own.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction. Be responsive to the customers’ needs, especially when addressing critical production or machine uptime. Always report arrival & departure times to customer in charge.
  • Capable of providing paid service related quotes for program upgrades/changes to our customers in a professional format – using COMPANY existing quote numbering system
  • Create / Write Programs or changes per specific customer requests such as programs which may require adding or subtracting part models to a machine, changes to HMI screens, sequence changes, etc.
  • Help promote the sale of maintenance contracts such as “The COMPANY Service Contract”.
  • Help promote the sale of recommended Spare Parts.

 

Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Five (5) years or experience in the job offered or as a Systems Integrator in the automotive parts industry OR a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Three (3) years’ experience in job offered or as a Systems Integrator in the automotive parts industry.
  • The position requires in depth Controls hands-on in the field experience, specific to the Machine Tool/Automation Business and previous experience as an automation engineer.

  2. HMI - Allen Bradley: Panelview, Panelview Plus, Siemens: TP, OP Series.
  3. Communications - Allen Bradley Ethernet I/P, ControlNet, Devicenet, Siemens: Profibus.
  4. Variable Frequency Drives - Allen Bradley Powerflex, SEW Eurodrive.
  5. Robotics – Denso, Epson, FANUC, (Staubli 6 and 4 axis robots, Bosch SCARA).
  6. Linear Actuators - Intelligent Actuator, Festo, Tolomatic, Rexroth.
  7. Servos – Allen Bradley: Kinetics 6000, SERCOS Servo Drive Interface, Yaskawa: SGDV, SGDH.
  8. Vision – Keyence / Panasonic / Cognex / DVT.
  9. Data Acquistion - Keithley: DAS-1400, DAS-1600, PIO-120

 

Software knowledge

  1. PLC - Allen Bradley: RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, Siemens: Step 7, Square D, Festo.
  2. HMI - Allen Bradley: FactoryTalk View Studio, RSView, PanelBuilder, Siemens: ProTool.
  3. Communications - Allen Bradley: RSNetworks, RSLinx, Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Siemens: Profibus.
  4. Robotics - Adept V+, QuickBasic.
  5. Servos - Allen Bradley: Kinetics 6000, SEW: Motion Studio.
